The stone circle is in the shadow of Dooncarton and Barnacuille hill. The stone circle has probably survived a lot over it's 2000 year old history, most recently last year's landslide. It's still not entirely clear what caused the landslide, but the people who built the circle probably didn't help matters by chopping down all the pine trees that once covered these hills! So you know who to blame. The dark shadow on the ridge of the hill shows where the peaty surface fell away.
