North Atlantic Skyline, despatches from the west coast of Ireland

Oughtmama

Photograph

Looking back from the west of Turlough Hill towards Oughtmama. Cattle grazing on the Burren is an ancient tradition - the monks that inhabited both the churches at Oughtmama and the monastery at corcomroe nearby would have kept cattle for food and trade. The animals also play an important part in keeping the hazel scrub from overwhelming the hills.
