On the same day that I wandered around Knock village and airport at Christmas, I spotted something interesting on the Ordnance Survey Map. Near the airport was marked a Cross, an Old Church, an Ogham Stone and a Holy Well. I could hardly resist, now could I?
To get there, turn east off the N17 just south on Knock airport onto the R325, which is probably not such useful advice since Mayo County Council don't bother put the road numbers on the signposts (it's the road to Loughlinn and also Ballaghadereen). Keep going until you reach Kilmovee village which is just off the R325 and take the road behind the church. Continue on up the hill (the road is very narrow) until you reach the first right. It's in the townsland of Ballinrumpa (there's a stone marker at the turn) - drive down that road until you reach a side road - the church ruins is on the left.
These photos were taken on Tuesday December 28, 2004, using a Canon G3 digital camera.
