Inishmicatreer Abbey, Co. Galway

This is the view of the church yard when standing in the remaining corner of the church, looking back (east) to the road (thorugh the gap in the wall visible on the left). The rocks protruding through the thick grass serve as headstones - this churchyard is also an old graveyard and was used more recently as a children's graveyard (until a few decades ago, stillborn children were still buried in unmarked graves and in 'secret' graves because the Catholic church refused to allows unbaptised children to be buried in their graveyards). The stones are unmarked, but they do probably mark where people were buried. Judging from the size of the stones, they were taken from the ruins of the church.
