The coast road actually veers into the bay at this point - the hill on the left of the picture is the sloping side of Ballyconreag and the land in front of it is the isthmus leading to Muchnish Point, that almost spans the entire mouth of Muckinish Bay. The deserted gatehouse shown in the following picture lies right behind where I stood to take this photo.
