Finvarra, The Burren, Co. Clare

On the road to Finnvara Point, on a grassy mound on the water's edge, is a memorial to Donnchadh Mór Ó Dálaigh, an Irish poet who died in 1244 and is said to have descended from the family of Niall of the Nine Hostages (yes, the one that kidnapped St. Patrick). The Annals of the Four Masters, an ancient Irish manuscript, described Ó Dálaigh as "a poet who never was and never will be surpassed".
