Coole Park is located close to Gort, and was the home of Lady Gregory. The house is gone, a victim of property development, but the park is worth a visit. Lady Isabelle Augusta Persse Gregory was a playwright, one of the founders of the Irish Literary Revival (which led to the foundation of the Abbey theatre) and a friend and host to many of Ireland's most famous literary figures, most notably William Butler Yeats.
