St.Thomas's Anglican church (Episcopalian) in Doogort on the northern part of Achill Island was part of a mission founded by Rev. Edward Nangle who arrived in Achill in 1831, who attempted to convert the islanders from Roman Catholicism. His mission declined when he was moved to Sligo in 1852.
