Frozen in time

The waves on this pool were frozen by a combination of a nasty wind and a decidely wintery drop in temperature. The photograph was taken yesterday on one of the Maumturk peaks (around 660 metres) in Connemara.

Posted by: Sean McCormack at December 30, 2005 02:31 AMHi Sean,
This particular walk was one that a few of us organized outside of the club (the club wouldn't officialy go into the Maumturks at this time of year), and I found it hard going (the other guys were seasoned mountain walkers). It wasn't great for photography because there wasn't very much time to stop for photographs (every time I stopped to take a shot, I was another 100 yards behind).
The club starts leading walking again in the new year (see the website), but won't go into the mountains until February. There's usually a bit more time for photos on the official walks (the pace is a bit slower), but even then, the mountain walks don't give a whole lot of time (the club organises a 'flat' walk every fortnight, and a mountain walk on the alternate weeks). My plan is to rewalk some of the mountain walks next year on my own (not the entire walks but specific paths that can be climbed in an hour and offer the best views) - you're more than welcome to come along. I tend to wander slowly when out taking photos so the offical walks don't really suit for photos (and lugging a tripod isn't an option)
WOW - this is so awesome. Wonderful find, and great framing.
