The early riser

Chances are, if you've been to Inis Mór (the largest of the Aran Islands off the coast of Galway), you've seen this fellow. Just up the hill from Kilronan pier is a brightly painted house and a clutch of chickens in the adjoining garden - Big Daddy here looks to be the boss of the clan.

Hi Monasette
Great snap of the cock!
Now please excuse the following infomercial, but I couldn't find an e-mail on NAS. Just an update for you: for various reasons, personal and otherwise, I have put tmulqueen.blogspot.com into hiatus. I'm dreaming up some plans for a Major Blog Project using all the latest stuff, a few months down the road, but in the meantime (since blogging can be quite addictive) I continue to blog at http://thetraverse.blogspot.com. I've always appreciated your link to my blog, and a tidy enough amount of traffic came in through it, so I'd very much appreciate if you could update the link from Tony Mulqueen to this address.

Awesome picture. They all are. I'm confused, though, as to what kind of latch that is on that door there. There doesn't seem to be a keyhole or handle, just this thing that looks like a screw, and a space that looks like it would say "open" or "occupied", like on a port-a-potty. (that's what we call them- those portable public toilets.) Is that what it is? I'm confused.

I have been to Inis Mór and it happens to be my fovorite spot in Ireland. However, I didn't see the big fellow.
