Modern Life is Rubbish

Every week or so, a pile of crushed metal grows on the docks in Galway - the metal detrius of life in the city and county. I'd like to think that the metal is recycled into buckles for the sandals of tree-huggers everywhere, but God knows what actually happens to it. All I know is that it gets loaded into a container ship and sails off every week. And the following week, there's another pile waiting...

I read somewhere that these containers full of waste are on their way to China or India where the contents are picked over and recycled. They come back to Ireland as something cheap to buy at Lidl or Aldi.

In Ireland, tons of trash and nowhere to put it
The New York Times

The earthen cliffs near this seaside harbor town have been sporting colorful decorations recently: Erosion by the gentle waves of the Irish Sea has exposed the scraggly remnants of hundreds of blue, black and yellow trash bags.

IRON/STEEL metal scraps are FULLY recycled.
They are purchased by all siderurgic plants (hot phase), at a fair price.

It is one of the best recycled material in the world. (good network to collect scraps, a demand higher than the offer, good value)

I forgot to add, that the metal scraps are used to make good NEW Steel, and not any rubbish or lower quality stuff.

In fact, it is needed to add a percentage of metal scrap in the furnaces, together with iron ore and coke.
