Flagmount

I don't know anything about the little village of Flagmount, lodged on a hill overlooking Lough Graney in South Galway. But judging by the belltower , I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Nativity Scene in the Church was based on characters from a galaxy far far away rather than one closer to home. Stranger things have happened.

Before you make rash judgements about something you know little about you should be educated. This belltower was built by a man who lives in Flagmount who is a stone mason. Flagmount is located in Ireland, where stone laying is a tradition. Just because this belltower
does not seem to fit some narrow minded peoples' image of what they think a bell tower outside a church should look like, does not mean that it was not built out of love for the church or for it's main purpose which is to call people to church.

I think you have misunderstood or misread my comments. I was not mocking the tower or its design (and certainly not the people who worship in the church), but pointing out that it does look like something out of a science fiction movie. This site is all about celebrating the amazing in the west, and this tower certainly fits that characterization.

By coincidence, I will be back in Flagmount tomorrow (Sunday) and I will make a point of finding out a bit more about the church tower. I'd be interested in learning a bit more about the tower and it's creator, and would appreciate any information that you might have ( I have emailed this comment directly to you too).
