Returning Home

When I got back from vacation, my garden had transformed itself into an overgrown but colourful jungle. A huge clump of golden Californian poppies dominate the flowerbed - I planted a few of them last year, and they reseeded themselves in a great swathe across the garden.
I don't know how common they are on the West Coast of the US, but, on a beautiful summer day here in Ireland, watching them sway in the breeze, where else would you want to be?
Posted by Monasette at June 14, 2004 11:50 PMWould you post me some yellow poppy seeds? I have a rough section of border wall garden that needs yellow flowers dancing above the grass clippings and compost.
Posted by: Bernie Goldbach at June 17, 2004 09:29 AMNo problem - just send me your address via email. Mind you, I guarantee you that you can buy Californian poppy seeds in almost any gardening shop. I've also planted Icelandic ones this year - according to the packet, I can expect pastel colours of red, blue and yellow - and they are available pretty much everywhere too.
The great thing about poppies is that even if you plant them now, you might just get some flowers later this year, depending on much sunshine we get for the rest of the summer.
